From Denver and the Front Range
- 1I-70 west toward Evergreen.
- 2Exit 252 to CO-74 south.
- 3Right onto CO-103.
- 412 miles west toward Mt. Blue Sky.
- 5Driveway on the right at the white and green Echo Mountain sign.
From Idaho Springs and points west
- 1Exit 240 to CO-103.
- 220 miles south past Echo Lake and Mt. Blue Sky.
- 3Driveway on the left.
Do not take Little Bear Creek Rd.
Navigation apps sometimes route out of Idaho Springs via Miner St. onto Little Bear Creek Rd. It is a gravel switchback road with no guardrails. Stay on CO-103.
Lower lot, on the right
Skiing and snowboarding.

Tubing. Watch for the tubing check-in sign at the split.
Winter driving
4WD or AWD recommended
CO-103 is plowed but it is a mountain road in winter.
Snow tires
Real ones. All-seasons are a compromise you feel at 9,000 feet.
Chains or traction devices
Keep a set in the trunk between November and April.
Renting a car?
Pay for the AWD. It is the cheapest insurance on the trip.
